One door closes, another door opens. This ends my blogging with Blogger and begins my blogging with Greymatter.
Blogger has been slowly dying from overload. This is an interesting comparison between centralized and decentralized systems. Ev and Meg, and several others, have been working like crazy to keep Blogger afloat. I have no idea how much code there is but it has to be monstrous compared to Greymatter. That and the money needed to keep their servers running. Greymatter seems to provide better functionality with less that 700kb of Perl (and a little Java and HTML); 111kb zipped. And one guy (Noah Grey), apparently with a little help from a friend (Jay), puts it all together.
No VC funding. No money for servers. Just a request to buy something for Noah and Jay from their Amazon wish lists.
Sorry to see Ev and Meg's efforts hitting a brick wall but it seems to be the case of the quick little mammal surviving better than the dinosaur. Long live Perl!
My Blogger archives are in the weblog archives. I hope everything is working. |
