My favorite Van Ronk story (and a long one!)

This is a story about the greatest performance I ever saw Dave Van Ronk (or damn near anyone) give, and the exceptionally difficult circumstances that gave rise to it. A true triumph over adversity. With Dave's passing, I figure it's safe to tell it one more time.
