good books
Required Reading
There are two books that I reread when history repeats itself in particularly rude ways, as it is doing now: Dalton Trumbo's "Johnny Got His Gun" and Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five." Because even if our leaders can't learn from history -- which, when we are especially fortunate, is compellingly preserved in great literature -- you and I can.
This is your assignment. Go to your local independent bookstore and buy these two books. Better yet, buy multiple copies and give them to your friends. Turn off the TV. Turn off CNN, NPR, ER, CSI and all that crap. Sit down with Dalton and Kurt and find out what's real and true and happening right now. [more]
If you don't have access to an independent bookstore, you can get them at these Amazon links. It's been a long time since I've read these books. I hate it that it is again time to read them. Read them and pass them out.
