Japanese Old Photographs of the Bakumatsu-Meiji Periods


A photo of the Kaisando of Kofukuji Temple taken by Beato around 1864,
and the street in Kojiyamachi. The road is paved for rickshaws.
The stone steps at the rear were later made into a slope. Taken at the end
of the Edo Era, this is one of the oldest pictures of the streets of Nagasaki.
