Is it a Bimmer or a Beemer?
Monday I received an e-mail from Matt Dellinger of the New Yorker magazine. He is doing a piece on the Old Crow Medicine Show and had found their TestingTesting show (they were on in November, 1998) by searching on the web for pages on the band. He wanted to interview me about the band and their TT show. He was also interested in TestingTesting. We had that phone interview this afternoon. It was another opportunity to tell someone about the amazing experience called the Old Crow Medicine Show. You can hear the energy in their TT show. Derek joined me in the interview. It was great talking to someone who gets it. Someone who has found something outside of Corporate Music. The Old Crow Medicine Show is the antithesis of Britney Spears and her ilk. The Old Crow Medicine Show is about the love of playing music. Britney Spears is about making money and the music is incidental.
This moving stuff is taking up way too much time! And things aren't slowing down. Monday night's TestingTesting archive is up. Derek, Steve, and Joanne (the TestingTesting House Band) hadn't had the opportunity to play much recently so they were the special guest. The show guestbook had a great entry:
Gotta tell you what a joy it is to hear this music again and how I've missed it! Back in the mid-70s, my house was a gathering place for friends and their acoustic guitars. My teenaged daughters sitting around the maple table, drawing, painting, listening.... I was up late last night re-mastering The Old Crow Medicine Show show. A writer from the New Yorker magazine is doing a piece on them and wanted to interview me about their appearance on TT on Nov 9, 1998. It was our 15th show (we now are at 111 plus two concerts). We left it up in the archives since it was such a memorable experience. I've been wanting to re-master the show lately since I've learned a few things about sound in the last 2 1/2 years and I wanted to use the RealAudio G2 codec which sounds *way* better. It now sounds much much better. Check it out. Jenny left Monday to return to Germany. I'm halfway there in getting pictures of her and her new honey up. Robby and Robyn leave on the 5th.
